This presentation will cover aspects of Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). RSI is used commonly in adult and pediatric patients to establish a stable airway. We will define what RSI entails as well as discuss the evidence for RSI in the NICU. The majority of the presentation will address the pharmacology of the individual medications used during this procedure. We will review the side effects of each medication as well as recommended dosing. We will pay particular attention to developmental differences in our neonatal population that must be considered when using such medications. Finally, we will review gaps in our knowledge of RSI and the medications used for this procedure and discuss future areas of research. At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to discuss indications and contraindications to RSI as well as have a working knowledge of the medications commonly used for this procedure.

Learning Objectives:
1. State the advantages, limitations, and dangers of rapid sequence intubation in the NICU.
2. Describe the medications currently used in rapid sequence intubation.
